To fully understand the term qigong we should first explain what “qi” means.

Qi is an energy that fills the whole universe. Every person, animal or plant has its own field of qi, field which tends toward balance and stability, both inside the body and in relation to the external world. The loss of qi can lead to disease and death. 
The word "gong" can be explained as time and effort devoted to achieving a purpose.

Together, the term "qigong" can be understood as any training or practice related to qi, that requires persistent effort. |
